Welcome to my academic website! I am Dr. Martin W. Seltmann, and I am part of the Lummaa Lab and the Urban Biophilia Project at the Department of Biology at the University of Turku. My research interests lie broadly in the fields of animal behaviour, behavioural ecology, and conservation physiology, with a particular focus on how individual differences – like personality – influence an animal's interactions with its environment and social group. I am fascinated by the intricate ways in which animals adapt and respond to challenges, from the stress of human interaction to the complexities of social dynamics.
My research often takes me into the field, where I collaborate with researchers across the globe to study diverse species, including Asian elephants, reindeer, and barnacle geese. This work has been published in journals such as Royal Society Open Science, Journal of Applied Ecology, and Animal Behaviour. Feel free to explore the website to learn more about my research projects, publications, and other activities. I hope you find the information here insightful!
